I read your blog on the copyright infringement notice you received and lo and behold, I had actually done an argument on this topic a few months back.
Whether a work is infringing or not is found by examining these 4 criteria:
1. The purpose and character of the use
(whether its commercial, non-commercial)
2. The nature of the copyrighted work
(whether it is transformative)
3. The amount and substantiality of the portion of the original work used
(how much of the original is copied)
4. The effect of the use upon the potential market of the original work
(does it effect the market of the original work)
I never saw the work that you are allegedly infringing upon, but I see much hope for you.
You should look into the case of Campbell v. Acuff-Rose 510 U.S 569. It set some awesome precedents that are beneficial to you.

Thanks for the explanation - copyright law is a really hairy beast indeed. I salute you for working in the quicksand.
I don't live in the US, though, so I doubt what precedents Campbell v. Acuff-Rose 510 U.S 569 would help me with, had I cared enough about a little home video to take it further.
